Dedicated to the burial of the poor souls, called "pezzentelle"
We will start the tour from the beautiful and semicircular Dante square, crossing Port'Alba, the street of the booksellers, to reach Bellini square. Here, we will see the ancient Greek walls that surrounded the city nucleus of Neapolis, thus entering the heart of the historic center, crossing Tribunali street. Here, we will stroll along the Major Decumanus, where we will discover the life, food, and Neapolitan folklore. We will stop to admire the majestic bronze statue of Pulcinella, created by a Neapolitan sculptor, Lello Esposito, in Vico Fico del Purgatorio. We will reach the Santa Maria delle Anime del Purgatorio ad Arco Museum Complex, consisting of a beautiful 17th-century decorated church and an underground chapel with a hypogeum, less decorated, dedicated to the burial of the poor souls, called "pezzentelle."
